The District Twenty Medical Examiner located in Naples, Florida has an opening for a full time autopsy technician/ investigator.  Employees of the District Twenty Medical Examiner are not County or State employees.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS

  • $30,000 - $32,000 starting salary, depending on experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Preferred one year experience assisting with autopsies at a medical examiner's office or pathology laboratory, or performing animal necropsies. 
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate required at a minimum.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Assist with autopsies from Monday through Friday, is expected to work two weekends per month and rotating holidays, and take evening calls from home.
  • Prepare the autopsy suite and the body for autopsy, take x-rays, as needed and clean the autopsy area.
  • Is responsible for record keeping, labeling, storing and maintaining chain of evidence of all specimens and perform other morgue duties, as needed.
  • MUST be able to move a deceased person that weighs up to 240 pounds unassisted.
  • Carry out all investigation functions and clerical duties.
  • Must be honest, trustworthy, reliable, compassionate for the family of the deceased,
    hard-working, well-groomed, polite, flexible and well-organized.
  • Able to work under pressure without losing composure.
  • Read and write English proficiently and must be computer literate.

POSITION AVAILABLE - FORENSIC INVESTIGATOR

The District Six Medical Examiner Office – Pasco and Pinellas Counties, is seeking qualified applicants to consider for the position of Forensic Investigator. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, forensic science, biology, or other closely related field and experience working within a Medical Examiner Office or death investigation experience associated with a law enforcement agency; or equivalent experience and education.

The Forensic Investigators in this District typically respond to and conduct scene investigations on non-natural deaths. Responsibilities include performing all types of death investigations, including scene investigations, obtaining critical information related to the death and circumstances surrounding the death, preparing written reports, scene documentation, scene photography, and screening cases for Medical Examiner jurisdiction. Critical thinking skills, time management, competence, independent judgment, initiative, and excellent problem solving skills are essential for this position.
This is a non-exempt, full-time position that involves rotating weekends and rotating nighttime on call status. On-call scene response vehicle, paid holidays and leave, health, dental, disability and life insurance benefits, and a 401K-retirement package are also provided.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with education and experience, at a minimum of $38,000/year, plus overtime.

The County of Volusia, Medical Examiner Division, is currently seeking a Forensic Technician. Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, the major function of this position is technical work assisting the Medical Examiner in performing autopsies.
Minimum Requirements: Graduation from high school or possession of G.E.D. and three (3) years experience in a medical laboratory, autopsy room or surgical ward. Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
